On Wednesday, I went over to the University of Salford (which is also the BBC and ITV site) and I had my first university interview so the teacher knows who I am and tell me whether my work was good enough. I was COMPLETELY terrified considering I had only brought an almost full sketchbook of sketches w/ things such as keyframes and character design and such, and a small post-it note flip animation from November of last year.
It was THE most nerve-wrecking thing I've ever done but I'm happy I went and did it. She talked about how the 2D stuff I had worked on in my sketchbook will actually be used when it comes to projects in class, how she liked how some of the characters were posed to convey an expression (I must thank
KiilKannibble for the tutorial. It really helped) and that I have a massive imagination. Also, she mentioned the work places that student get with people from the BBC and ITV which I find really cool.
I have only received a conditional offer from the university, meaning I have to get passed my target minimum grade and above a certain amount of tariff points to get in. I have already passed my minimum grade by getting Distinction grade (the highest grade possible on a BTEC course) across the first 9 units in my first year and have already obtained another 5 on another 5 units from the crazy workflow I had within the first 3 months of my 2nd year (this year) in college.
I, now, need to apply for the loans for tuition and maintenance, as well as scholarships. The majority of scholarships require a person's household to not be earning over £25,000 a year which fits me perfectly as the household I live in currently only earns at least £14,000 a year.
So, all in all, I'm happy with how the interview went, thank you again (KiilKannibble) and good morning, good afternoon, good evening and goodnight.
Off to applying for loans and scholarships.
